Check and Make Sure Your Mask Is Travel-Compliant

Face masks are required on all METRO vehicles, inside METRO properties and within six feet of others outside on METRO properties. Masks must meet CDC effective mask criteria, which has been updated in light of the President’s executive order Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel. As has been the METRO requirement, masks must fully cover one’s nose and mouth.

The following do NOT fulfill the effective masks requirements: scarves, ski masks, balaclavas and bandannas; face shields or goggles worn without an effective mask; masks worn in ways that do not fully cover one’s nose and mouth; shirt or sweater collars (e.g. turtleneck collars) pulled up over the mouth and nose; masks made from loosely woven fabric or that are knitted (i.e. fabrics that let light pass through); masks made from materials that are hard to breathe through (such as vinyl, plastic or leather); masks containing slits, exhalation valves or punctures; and masks that do not fit properly (large gaps, too loose or too tight).
