In honor of Black History Month, METRO recognizes Vicki Woods, customer service representative at Rock Region METRO. Woods was the first Black administrative employee at Central Arkansas Transit, now known as METRO. She began her career in 1983 as an information specialist. When her husband had a tour of duty overseas, she went with him; however, upon their return to Arkansas, she resumed her employment in 1988.

In an interview, she stated that she was proud of being the ‘first’ and was able to train and bring others on board at METRO. The best part of Vicki’s job is finding solutions when customers and visitors have concerns. She misses the large system map that highlighted the different routes and the intersecting blocks. Daily, she is proud of the work she accomplishes and the impact she has made on colleagues and travelers.

When asked why should someone work at METRO, she answered by saying that working at METRO means “…you’re helping people get to work, school and appointments safely.” Woods said that one word to describe Rock Region METRO is reliable.

Thank you, Vicki, for your years of dedication to METRO, and we honor you during Black History Month.
